Annotation

English Description: This book presents a multidisciplinary study on the history of Byblos based on the exploration and comparison of different kinds of sources. The author divides the history of Byblos into four main periods. Between the end of the second millennium and the middle of the 9th century, Byblos, which continues to maintain its privileged ties with Egypt, enjoyed a certain independence which allowed it to develop and maintain relations with the inhabitants of Huelva in Spain. However, between 853 and 610, Byblos, and because of the Assyrian conquests, not only lost its independence, but it was forced to give allegiance to the Assyrian rulers by paying tribes. This situation has not changed during the Babylonian epoch, which lasted less than a century. During the Persian era (539-333), Byblos, which was part of the province of Transeuphratene, rebuilt its fleet, and issued its own currencies. Due to lack of documents, Byblos could not reveal all its secrets yet.
