This little girl is being treated bad for looking differently than the other kids. Her skin is dark, her hair is kinky, her features are larger than all of the other kids that attend that school. This little girl is an African American and somehow is being made to feel inferior and sad. She thought if she could look like the other kinds she would be accepted by them. She learned that black is beautiful and celebrated her beauty. This book teaches that racism does not wait until our children are adults before it raises its ugly head, causes life to be dreadful and deprives one of their rights to live life equally everywhere in this country. It is important that as children they learn the history of racism and how they are affected. If they do not know of their history they could easily repeat the pain. To the kids that are made to feel inferior because the color of your skin is different, celebrate your differences and know that you are black and beautiful, inside and out.
