Students are often assigned reading about historic figures and people who have impacted our society in unique ways but we fail to help students understand what it means to be a good citizen. Citizenship must be taught and encouraged, just like multiplication tables and phonics rules but schools have so many responsibilities that sometimes teaching about citizenship falls between the cracks.
