Socialization is known to be a process through which an individual forms a relationship to other individuals, commonly of the same species. The process of socialization is characteristic of different mammal communities including human society. In this book, the authors discuss the theories, processes and impact of socialization. Topics include the early experience of tactile stimulation and its behavioral consequences related to socialization in mammals; classroom processes of gender socialization in four Chinese kindergartens; parenting and family socialization within a cultural context; socialization and the self-identity differentiation model; social psychology of action and social change; ethnic-racial socialization and its implications for ethnic minority children; gender organizational socialization processes; and socialization processes that contribute to body image problems.
