Street's reputation for being England's largest village has become more and more contradictory. It has facilities that many towns could envy: live theatre, public pools, hotels, and a famous shopping centre that attracts tourists worldwide. Yet it manages to keep features that 'Streetonians' feel comfortable with. The lengthy High Street has many 'proper' shops, and many old landmarks survive to this day. Street's origins stretch back to prehistoric times, and the primitive icthyosaurus excavated locally is the official modern emblem. You can mingle with the tourists or buy groceries in a little old shop with stone floors, the choice is yours. Thus, there is much more than shopping to this cheerful and busy place, ever-changing but also unchanging, and Street Through Time tells its story.
