He was a small, wiry-looking man, with red hair and mustache and clean-cut features. Upon closer view I looked into clear blue eyes which never for an instant wavered in their gaze, but which looked me through and through. He seemed to be a man of about sixty, but I learned later that he was past seventy-three years of age.
