The house is still the home of the family who built it, and we feel that it is in the interests of all that the lived-in atmosphere should be preserved. To this end, labels and show cases have been dispensed with, and visitors will greatly assist in the preservation of works of art and books if they will kindly refrain from handling them.<br><br>Much that you will see at Loseley dates back to the Elizabethan period when the house was built. Some pieces are older than the house itself and each succeeding generation has added its contribution of furniture, books and paintings, down to the portraits of the present generation.<br><br>Should any information be required which is not given here, the guide will be pleased to help, but the answer may have passed into antiquity.
