Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The question whether Cravats were worn by the ancients is satisfactorily decided. It is fully proved that the Romans used a chin cloth, corresponding almost entirely with the modern Cravat; and that the col lar of the ancient Persians, Egyptians and Greeks, was the origin of the stock of the present day.
