Annotation

Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. The town of Newbury was originally one of the largest towns in the county. It was about thirteen miles long, and about six miles broad in the widest place, and contained about thirty thousand acres, of which nearly two thousand are covered with water. In 1764, it was divided into two towns, Newbury and Newburyport. In 1771, a province valuation was taken, and in 1781, a valuation was taken by the state, in which Newbury and Newburyport stood thus.
