Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. But injudicious as his alterations often were, we owe a deep obligation to the venerable pastor for having rescued from Oblivion these very characteristic ancient pieces, that have not only given his readers the innocent entertainment he intended them, but been a fountain of fine poetry to Danish writers of succeed ing generations. For what Percy's Reliques effected in this country, its ballad literature has done in at least an equal degree for Denmark.
