Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. During this time he also wrote half a dozen Italian sonnets. Both of these groups I shall briefly consider, as well as the circumstances under which some of them were written, so far as it is necessary for a correct understanding of them, and perhaps may dwell some what upon the merits and limitations of the form in which he wrote. In what I say of the Sonnet in gen eral, I shall invoke the aid of the poets themselves who have written such verse.
