Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Bibliographical references have been almost entirely rele gated to the Notes, Where the sources for each section Will be found, thus avoiding the typographical disfigurement Which footnotes entail. The plan, it is believed, will enable a ready identification of any passage desired, and at the same time Will give a convenient key for the several treatments of related topics. The Bibliography gives the sources upon which the text is chiefly based, chapter for chapter. Other references, inci dentally quoted, are given in the Notes.
