Annotation

Indole derivatives are very important heterocyclic compounds in drug-discovery studies. They represent a very important class of molecules that play a major role in cell biology and are potential naturally occurring products. There has been an increasing interest in the use of indole derivatives as bioactive molecules against microbes, cancer cells, and various kinds of disorders in the human body. In this case, often considered to be the pre-eminent heterocycle and the molecular scaffold of greatest medicinal importance, indole continues to captivate chemists and biologists alike. Considering the reports on indole targets in the past decades, introducing new synthetic methods has been an active field of chemical research for well over a century and would be beneficial to develop new therapeutic agents. Given the enormous resurgence in indole ring synthesis over the past decade, there is a need for a comprehensive presentation of the myriad methods for constructing the indole ring: from 2010 to 2018. Due to the importance of indoles and their role in society, we are interested in collecting a book on the new methods for the synthesis of indoles derivatives. Since no book on indole structural derived scaffolds e.g. isoindole, benzoindole, fused Indoles, bis-indole and bis(indolyl)methanes, spiroindole and spirooxindole and indoloindole has been published as yet, we did not restrict ourselves to consideration of only indole synthesis but also included the results of recent studies on the synthesis of these new structures. This book attempts to illustrate the most recently used synthetic methods to prepare indole, isoindole, benzoindole, fused Indoles, bis-indole and bis(indolyl)methanes, spiroindole and spirooxindole and indoloindole and also present strategies for synthetic modification of indole via C2 functionalization of indoles, C3 functionalization of indoles and N functionalization of indoles. We have selected recent methods and examples on the basis of utility and reliability in the authentic literature or specific procedures, which are especially convenient. We invite students and professors of chemistry and pharmacy at different educational levels who want to increase their knowledge or work on the synthesis or pharmaceutical application of this class of scaffolds, to study this book in order to get acquainted with the latest methods presented.
