Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. Having been a witness and an agent in most of the movements which have taken place in regard to Mount Auburn Cemetery from its commencement to the present time, I have felt it a duty to leave on record some account of the more noticeable occurrences connected with the inception, progress, and manage ment of the first enterprise of its kind in the United States. That this task might be discharged with fidelity, I have strengthened my own reminiscences by those of my friends, as well as by a perusal of the Records of the Corporation, from which frequent ex tracts are made, and also of such contemporaneous publications and documents as I have, for my own satisfaction, from time to time, preserved.
